Education made better
Yrkesfag (Vocational education) is a focus area for Fagbokforlaget going forward. All educational material is now gathered under a unified visual identity. The concept of modularity brought us a design system to create striking and functional books, digital solutions and other artifacts with ease. Flexible, scalable and instantly recognisable. The identity system follows the principles of Universal Design and the editorial design is specially developed for people with reading and writing difficulties. We also developed a two-sided illustration style: One is abstract and imaginary, the other is precise and refined. Dropping soon at a high school near you.

"SDG’s identity system for Fagbokforlaget sets a new precedent for academic textbooks. Norwegian publishers Fagbokforlaget look to be the most stylish purveyor of academic textbooks in history, following the release of their identity and editorial system designed by Oslo-based design agency Scandinavian Design Group. Producing non-fiction and educational books, SDG have implemented the thematically appropriate Universal Design aesthetic – creating a system that is both stark and innately approachable through intelligent use of colours, typography treatment and understanding." —The Brand Identity (world-renowned design site)
Before and after.
The work was awarded gold at Visuelt 2021 (Norwegian National Design Awards).
Jury comment: "Simple and pragmatically solved, the design feels mature and takes the students seriously. A big step in the right direction for academic textbooks. An exciting example of systematical thinking in editorial design."
